With over four million acres of public land, Sanders County and the surrounding areas provide numerous outdoor activities for you to enjoy. We've provided detailed information on fishing, hunting, and hiking below, but you certainly aren't limited to these activities. Boating, mountain biking, four-wheeling, and many other options are available in warmer months. And, in the winter, you can enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Fishing

Thompson Falls and the surrounding areas are a fisherman's paradise. With thousands of rivers and streams, hundreds of lakes, and dozens of reservoirs, you'll have endless opportunities to test your fishing skills. Fly fishing, ice fishing, and trolling are all available in the area. Like all of Montana, the Thompson Falls area is well know of it's excellent trout fishing. But, it's also a great location for bass fishing. In particular, the Noxon Reservoir contains plenty of largemouth bass and smallmouth bass, as well as a number of bass fishing tournaments. Hunting

Thompson Falls, Montana, located in Sanders County, is home to a number of big-game species, including mule deer, whitetail deer, elk, black bear, grizzly bear, wolves, and mountain lion. And, don't forget bird hunting. There are plenty of opportunities to hunt all three species of mountain grouse in the Thompson Falls area. Furbearers, such as marten and wolverine, are also relatively plentiful in this region.

Hiking

Thompson Falls has a number of excellent hiking trails. You can choose from easy trails, suitable for the whole family, or extremely difficult trails, that will challenge the most accomplished hikers. Regardless of which trail you choose, you find that, in many cases, you'll have it all to yourself.
